SUKUMO × KAMISHICHIKEN HITOYADO

2013

“KAMISHICHIKEN” is a district of north-west Kyoto, Japan. It is the oldest hanamachi in Kyoto, and is located just east of the Kitano Tenman-gū Shrine.

HITOYADO was created to stimulate the senses and to offer a wonderful experience to everyone that stays there.

In the style of a Japanese tea-ceremony house designed by Mr. Yasumichi Morita in collaboration with artists such as Mr. Naoki Kuzumi, Mr. Takahiro Kondo, and Mr. Yui Higashibata, the accommodation is elegant in a unique and understated way, which is characteristic of Kyoto.

The walls created by Kuzumi, for example, were built with soil that used to be part of the famous Higashi Honganji Temple.

Kondo’s “Ginteki” technique and Higashibata’s ornamental woodwork also reflect Kyoto’s refined elegance.

We are very thrilled that Mr. Yasumichi Morita has chosen SUKUMO Leather to upholster the furniture throughout the house.
